53 Released Players Worth Tracking
Image courtesy of Andrew Weber-USA TODAY SportsWhile there's a good chance the Vikings may only be interested in one or two of the names, if any at all, the Vikings have also shown they aren't shy to potentially add a good practice squad stash late in the process—Justin Jackson from the Detroit Lions being a good example.
Aside from that there's some veteran talent worth exploring. Some big names, like Will Hill, didn't make the list because of a poor recent history of performance, but most have if only to provide some discussion.
Some positions are listed despite there being no need, but they'll be useful if only because injury or trade may affect depth. If the Vikings are able to net a late-round pick for Christian Ponder, for example, they may want to consider grabbing a developmental quarterback like Bryn Renner or a veteran backup like Caleb Hanie—neither of whom are likely more talented than Ponder but may provide good QB3 services.
Similarly, some positions of need, like guard, don't have many or any listings because the depth in the NFL is poor. Make of it what you will.
One further note, if this were not a Vikings-specific list with Mike Zimmer in mind, Erik Lora would likely be on the list and the position listings would be different (edge rushers were labeled DE regardless of what they were in college or previous team, while 3-4 DEs are listed as DTs).
Of these, Ryan Spadola, Cody Hoffman, Bryn Renner, Kevin Reddick, Jackson Jeffcoat, Adrian Hamilton, Terrell Thomas, Qua Cox, Jemea Thomas and Brandon Ghee interest me the most.
Of all of them, Brandon Ghee is the most likely, given his history with Zimmer. What do you think? Any names that pop out at you? Any names I missed?
